Black Stone Shivling Sets
An original Narmada river Shivling seated on a hand-carved black stone Jaldhara. Below, exactly what the black stone is — and what it is not.

The black part is the Jaldhara, not the Linga
This is the most common mix-up. A Narmadeshwar Shivling is a natural stone shaped over millennia in the Narmada riverbed — brown, red, grey, olive or cream, almost always with banding. A uniformly jet-black, glossy "Shivling" is usually carved granite, not a Narmada Bana Linga.
The black stone is the base the Linga sits in — the Jaldhara or Yoni Pitha, which channels abhishekam water out through one spout. That is the carved component, and making it from black stone is both a traditional and a practical choice.
So if you are searching for a black stone Shivling, this set is what you actually want: a natural Narmada Linga paired with a black stone Jaldhara. They ship together.
Non-porous under daily water
Black stone is dense enough that daily jalabhishekam leaves no staining or softening, which is why it outlasts marble on a puja shelf.
Makes the Narmada banding read
Against a deep black base, the brown, red and cream banding on the Narmada stone stands out instead of washing into the pedestal.
Hand-carved, not moulded
Each Jaldhara is cut and polished by hand. Nothing in the set is moulded resin or stone powder pressed into a shape.

Common questions
Is the Shivling itself made of black stone?
No. The Narmadeshwar Shivling is a natural Narmada river stone — usually brown, red, grey or cream with banding. The black stone is the Jaldhara (Yoni Pitha) beneath it, which is hand-carved rather than river-formed.
Why is the Jaldhara carved from black stone?
Black stone is dense, does not absorb water, and survives daily jalabhishekam without staining or softening. Its depth of colour also makes the natural banding on the Narmada stone read more clearly.
How do I clean a black stone Jaldhara?
Wipe it dry with a soft cloth after the daily abhishekam. Never use chemical cleaners or anything acidic — plain water and a dry cloth are all it needs.
